Job Summary

Transport patients, specimens, and medication safely and timely throughout the hospital, assisting with lifting and moving patients while monitoring O2, IVs, and catheters. Check patient ID bands and complete two identifiers prior to transportation, alerting appropriate personnel for any issues within 10 minutes of delays. Maintain transport equipment in a clean, safe, orderly manner and complete all departmental records and handoffs. Adhere to hospital policies, universal precautions, and HIPAA confidentiality requirements while interacting with patients, families, and staff with courtesy and professionalism. Perform other duties as assigned, including transporting stretchers and oxygen.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association or ARC American Red Cross upon hire
  • Demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management
  • Ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seeks assistance
  • Monitors O2, IV's, catheters, etc. and alert appropriate personal with problems 100% of the time
  • Informs supervisor/dispatcher of all delays within 10 minutes
  • Maintains transport equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner
  • Returns all equipment to the appropriate location
  • Maintains and completes all departmental records
  • Completes proper handoff before removing patient from dept/unit
  • Check all patients ID bands and complete two patient identifiers prior to transportation
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures
  • Understand and demonstrate safe lifting and transport techniques
  • Knows and practices universal precautions as appropriate
  • Ability to understand and follow direction
  • Ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements
  • Completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis
