Patient Advocacy and Government Relations Manager

Job Summary
Lead government relations and patient advocacy efforts in Australia, engaging with parliamentarians, government officials, and patient groups to influence healthcare policy and regulatory outcomes. Develop and execute patient advocacy strategies, monitor legislative changes, draft policy proposals and briefs, and secure advocacy support for policy initiatives. Drive cross-divisional collaboration, measure partnership outcomes, and report progress. This is a full-time remote role with preferred Canberra-based work that includes 1–2 days per week at Parliament House and flexibility to travel to Canberra as required. The role emphasizes relationship-building with government stakeholders, industry bodies, patient groups, and external partners, along with strong project management and stakeholder-management capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in government relations, public affairs, parliamentary environments, advocacy, lobbying, ministerial offices, or policy advisory roles
- Strong understanding of Australian political and policy processes
- Ability to navigate government, regulatory and stakeholder landscapes effectively
- Proven ability to build and maintain influential relationships with government stakeholders, industry bodies, advocacy groups, and external partners
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage credibly with senior decision-makers
- Experience developing and executing advocacy, stakeholder engagement, or policy influence strategies that support organizational objectives
- Strong project management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced and evolving environment
- Ability to operate autonomously, show initiative, and adapt quickly to shifting priorities
- Passion for healthcare, patient outcomes, public policy, or regulated industries
- Existing networks within government, parliament, ministerial offices, departments or relevant industry associations will be highly regarded
