Job Summary
Register patients accurately and timely by obtaining identifying and biographical data following appropriate check-in processes across rotating departments including emergency, outpatient, and labs. Schedule appointments as deemed appropriate by the department, perform pre-registration tasks such as obtaining insurance information, entering ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT coding, and preparing liability estimations for scheduled and walk-in services. Answer phones, direct calls courteously, and relay patient information while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Transport patients via wheelchair as needed, inform patients of appointment delays, and coordinate with Pre-service Centers and physician offices to obtain required authorizations or script compliance. Prioritize work tasks, utilize effective communication skills to incorporate Corewell Health standards, and actively participate in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 CPT coding
- Medical terminology knowledge
- Revenue cycle knowledge
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
- Knowledge and experience with a variety of information systems
- Experience with spreadsheet software
- Experience with word processing software
- Keyboard proficiency
- Must be willing to rotate working all shifts - days, afternoons and midnights
- Must be willing to rotate working every other weekend
- Must be available for mandatory orientation first week 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Knowledge of HIPAA Regulations
- Ability to prioritize work
- Utilization of effective communication skills
- Knowledge of Corewell Health standards
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as Microsoft systems
- Ability to operate calculators
- Ability to operate photocopiers
- Ability to operate fax machines
- Ability to transport and escort patients via wheelchair as needed
- Ability to call the physician/physician's office/Quest labs when patients arrive without a script or required labs
- Completion of all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements
- Compliance with drug-free workplace requirement
- Compliance with MMR vaccine requirement
- Compliance with Varicella vaccine requirement
- Compliance with Tdap vaccine requirement
- Compliance with Influenza vaccine requirement
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year of relevant experience in a customer service role
- 1 year of relevant experience in the healthcare industry
