Job Summary
Patient Access Specialist at Legacy Behavioral Health performs front-office and pre-service coordination tasks: scheduling according to appointment protocols, pre-registration of new and established consumers, and verification of insurance and eligibility across Medicare, Medicaid, and Self Pay; informs patients of referral authorization requirements, co-pays, and deductibles, and assists in securing payment arrangements. Responsibilities include answering and directing calls, processing referrals, conducting eligibility/compliance checks, and completing questionnaires for Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance programs. Requires strong data-analysis capabilities, proficiency with EMR systems, and excellent communication and teamwork to expedite payment and avoid authorization penalties. The role is based at the Lowndes Mental Health Center in Valdosta, GA, with in-person work arrangements, and supports a multi-county service area in South Georgia.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in a business, medical or related field preferred
- High school diploma or GED may be accepted with minimum 3 years of work experience in a medical office setting
- Prefer 5 years experience in a medical office environment
- Requires basic computer skill
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of EMR
- Ability to analyze data for improvement opportunities
- Discretion in handling confidential information
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and teambuilding
- A valid GA driver’s license is required
