Job Summary
Patient Access Specialist responsible for patient registration and scheduling within Northwestern Medicine. Duties include collecting demographic information, verifying insurance eligibility, performing medical necessity checks, estimating out-of-pocket costs, scheduling appointments, communicating with patients and various hospital departments, maintaining patient confidentiality per HIPAA, and ensuring data accuracy in registration and scheduling systems. Must deliver professional, responsive customer service, escalate issues as needed, cross-train across departments, and adhere to compliance and quality standards. Requires strong communication, data-entry speed (40 wpm), and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Position located in Evanston, IL with in-person responsibilities and regular office-based workflow.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2-3 years customer service or medical office experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Basic Computer Skills
- Ability to type 40 wpm
- Ability to multi-task
- Customer service oriented
- Excellent organizational, time management, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of healthcare scheduling and/or registration (preferred)
- Experience with Epic or similar EHR systems (preferred)
