Patient Access Specialist - FT Swing shift

Job Summary
Facilitate patient tracking and billing by obtaining and verifying accurate demographic information, securing financial responsibility from guarantors, and collecting out-of-pocket payments to maximize hospital reimbursement. Answer telephone inquiries professionally, record messages, and communicate with medical staff while providing and obtaining signatures on required forms and consents. Verify insurance benefits for all plans, confirm correct payors, obtain authorizations, and scan registration and clinical documentation into the system to maintain complete medical records. Assist with patient transfers, respond to medical record requests, and maintain logs for patients, payments, and admissions. Work the swing shift (12p-12a) in a 29-bed small-format hospital in Kelly, ensuring compliance with EMTALA, DNV, and HIPAA regulations. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required for the El Paso Market.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting
- Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Excellent customer service
- Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication
- Fluency in both English & Spanish
Desired Qualifications
- Emergency Department registration experience
- 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting
