Job Summary
Register and document discharge and admission information for patients in accordance with HIPAA and federal regulations. Acknowledge patients professionally, verify identification, input demographic and insurance data, and collect co-pays. Manage switchboard and PBX functions, process telephone communications, and forward messages. Handle emergency registrations, pre-certification verifications, and workers' compensation claims. Maintain accurate patient records, reconcile cash drawers, and ensure daily census completion. Adhere to infection control policies and organizational procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Patient Access Certification
- Completion of a medical terminology course
- Basic computer skills with typing speed of 28 words per minute
- Clerical experience
- Registration experience in a healthcare setting
- Ability to think and work effectively with frequent interruptions
- Ability to move, sit, stand, walk, and bend intermittently throughout the work day
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Sight/hearing senses or use of prosthetics that will enable the applicant to adequately fulfill the requirements of this position
- Use of mechanical and technical equipment
- Ability to perform essential position responsibilities with unaided or with assistance of a reasonable accommodation
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with insurance company reimbursement, co-pays and deductibles
- Registration experience in a healthcare setting
