Job Summary
The Patient Access Representative will be the initial point of contact at Mercy, handling scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance to ensure accurate patient data entry into the system. Responsibilities include facilitating entry into Mercy facilities, maintaining thorough knowledge of insurance carriers and Medicare guidelines, and delivering high-quality customer service. Requires high attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure; prior clerical/customer-service experience and a high school diploma are preferred. The role is part-time (PRN/as needed) with potential benefits for those working 32+ hours per pay period. Location: Mercy Hospital Carthage, United States.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma required; some college helpful
- 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, excellent telephone etiquette required
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and insurance companies
- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
- Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines and perform all daily assignments with a high level of accuracy
- Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems; Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
