Patient Access Representative (Part Time, Evenings)

Job Summary
Conduct patient registration and verification for outpatient and emergency departments, including demographics, insurance eligibility, and diagnostic order transcription. Validate patient identification in hospital information systems, report potential identity theft, and manage work queue errors. Coordinate with clinical and revenue cycle departments to ensure clean claim submission and payment. Greets and directs patients, answers facility inquiries, and promotes MyChart usage. Monitor Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology, contact prior authorization departments for referrals, and verify provider credentials. Maintain knowledge of network policies and cross-train across all campus locations.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- General computer experience
- Ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly
- Ability to sit or stand up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to frequently use hands/fingers for data entry
- Ability to frequently walk
- Ability to push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair
- Ability to occasionally carry or lift up to 15 pounds
- Hearing as it relates to normal conversation
- Seeing as it relates to general vision
- Part Time, Evening availability
- 16 hours per week availability
- Every other Monday/Friday availability
- Every other weekend/holiday availability
- 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM availability
- Ability to occasionally travel between campuses or regional locations
- Ability to cross train in all areas of location or region
- Ability to be cross trained in outpatient and Emergency Department areas
- Ability to be cross trained for all locations if any different nuances
- Ability to greet/direct patients and visitors for the entire facility
- Ability to provide friendly and courteous service to community and co-workers
- Ability to monitor and enforce visitor policy
- Ability to answer internal and external calls on main department/facility line
- Ability to dispense appropriate information and answer questions regarding the facility and its services
- Ability to promote and help increase usage of MyChart patient portal and patient self-service capabilities
- Ability to oversee and assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology
- Ability to contact the SLPG practice or Network Prior Authorization Department to obtain required insurance referrals and pre-certs
- Ability to obtain medical license Number, NPI and UPIN via appropriate website for all new provider entries
- Ability to correctly identify/validate the choosing of patients in hospital information system
- Ability to identify and report any instances of possible identify theft situations
- Ability to maintain knowledge and education of network policy on Patient Identification including Mark for Merge, Chart Corrections, and Patient Look-Up
- Ability to handle patient registration (pre-reg and post-reg needs) including demographics, emergency contact, transcribing diagnostic orders, primary care and referring provider, diagnosis, insurance and guarantor verification, real time insurance eligibility, point of service cash collections
- Ability to handle patient, account, and claim edit level work queue errors related to registration
- Ability to contact provider office, review patient medical chart for diagnosis and medical necessity information
- Ability to ensure results are routed accurately and claim submission/payment
Desired Qualifications

- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous medical administrative experience
- Health care related education courses
- Knowledge of health information system (epic)
