Job Summary
Greet patients, complete full registration at date of service, and collect accurate demographic and financial information while adhering to Conifer Standards of Care. Secure medical necessity checks, verify insurance eligibility, and obtain authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled services. Perform cash reconciliation, file protected health information packets, and assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and post-discharge care coordination. This role requires floating between Piedmont Medical Center, Fort Mill, and Indian Land ERs, with Sunday and weekday evening shifts following initial day shift training. Candidates must demonstrate strong customer service skills, work in a fast-paced environment, and handle uncooperative patients while maintaining compliance with hospital and legal standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm
- Demonstrated working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer
- Customer service skills and experience
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications
- Must be able to perform essential job duties in at least two Patient Access service areas including Emergency Department
- Uses proper negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by our Patients/Guarantors
- Must be able to appropriately interpret physician orders, medical terminology and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care
- Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands
- Must be able to sit at computer terminal for extended periods of time
- Occasionally lift/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs
- Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking
- Must obtain and provide confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings prior to the start of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of function and relationships within a hospital environment
- Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements
- Understanding of Compliance standards
- 0 – 1 year administrative experience in medical facility, health insurance, or related area
- Some college coursework
