Job Summary
The Patient Access Representative I handles entry-level admissions and registration duties, identifies insurance coverage or financial resources to pay for care, and assists with routine customer service inquiries. Responsibilities include greeting patients, initiating the registration process, processing admission/registration paperwork, and ensuring accurate recording of payments collected at the point of service. The role requires developing knowledge of health insurance options, handling escalations to more experienced staff as needed, maintaining professional communication with PAS and medical center staff, and meeting productivity and KPI standards. This position is designed as an entry-level role with on-the-job and formal training to advance to Patient Access Representative II after gaining at least one year of experience in Patient Access Services.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
- Language: Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish)
- Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology such as Medicare, Medi-Cal, Workers Comp, Managed Care (HMO, PPO, POS, etc.)
