Patient Access Representative - ED Registration - Gainesville / Lumpkin - PRN - Shifts Vary

Job Summary

Greet patients, register them, and verify or obtain complete and accurate demographic information while identifying benefits eligibility and pre-certification status. Collect co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance, providing financial counseling when appropriate, and complete the entire registration process. Capture and document pertinent patient, subscriber, and insurance information into the EHR system, including policy numbers, addresses, and coverage details. Verify insurance eligibility by contacting patients, physician offices, and payers, then review work to assure accuracy in patient type, visit type, and code identification. Assess and collect financial liabilities, educating patients on the billing process and referring them for financial counseling if applicable. Scan registration documents into the Document Management System and confirm EHR updates with pre-certification information for scheduled and non-scheduled outpatient accounts.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment (computer, fax, telephone, scanning copier)
  • Ability to be mobile and push patient in wheelchair, if necessary between any location within hospital campus
  • Ability to work independently
  • Emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress while continuing to demonstrate positive attitude with patients at all times
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of Protected Health Information
  • Ability to be flexible and manage change
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be proficient with use of all Patient Access Systems, Software Application and Processes
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of billing requirements and proper documentation
  • Must possess detailed understanding and knowledge of insurance guidelines and protocols, the components of full verification, and payor information / requirements
