Job Summary

Patient Access Representative performs registration, admissions, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification with a courteous, professional approach. Under supervision of the Patient Access Manager, duties include MPI/EHR data entry, collecting payments, handling telephone and paging, ensuring compliance with EMTALA/HIPAA/CMS and hospital policies, delivering AIDET-guided service, assisting with patient flow, and contributing to department projects. The role requires strong communication, multi-tasking, proficiency with EHR systems and insurance portals, and flexibility to work various shifts; opportunities for mentorship and cross-training within the Patient Access department are available.

Required Qualifications

  • Patient Access Representative I: High school graduate or GED; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification strongly recommended; Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare or customer service setting.
  • Patient Access Representative II: High school graduate or GED; BLS certification strongly recommended; Minimum one (1) year in GRH Patient Access department; CHAA certification required; Pass Patient Access II competency module annually.
  • Patient Access Senior Representative: High school graduate or GED; BLS certification strongly recommended; Minimum two (2) years in GRH Patient Access department; Minimum six (6) months as a Patient Access Representative II; CHAA certification required; Pass Senior Representative competency module annually.
