Patient Access Representative

Job Summary
Greet and register incoming patients at the registration area, verifying demographics, collecting up-front payments, and obtaining signed authorizations. Schedule appointments for providers via phone or in person, relaying messages and coordinating with staff while maintaining strict patient confidentiality. Process insurance information, verify coverage through Availity, and manage up-front collections including co-pays and deductibles. Perform day-end duties such as tallying receipts, preparing daily deposits, balancing cash drawers, and securing the building. Provide coverage in the absence of other employees and adhere to departmental dress code and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Typing skills of 25 wpm
- Previous computer knowledge
- Knowledge of Word and Excel programs
- One year of related work experience
- Excellent guest service skills
- Communication skills
- Multi-tasking skills
- Demonstrates understanding of the Revenue Management Cycle
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge of systems and applications related to specific duties of job title
- Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Clerical and analytical ability to be self-sufficient in performing assigned duties and maintaining confidential information
- Knowledge of credit card machine use
- Ability to verify demographics including address, phone number, DOB, and Social Security number
- Ability to verify coverage through Availity
- Ability to verify patient co-pay, co-insurance, and/or deductible amount
- Ability to collect up-front and account payments
- Ability to write out receipts with correct information
- Ability to inform self-pay patients of self-pay policy and collect payment before service
- Ability to log credit card entries
- Ability to tally all receipts taken during the day and charge tickets
- Ability to prepare daily deposit
- Ability to check and balance cash drawer
- Ability to enter correct amounts of payments including insurance payments on the AR worksheet
- Ability to enter correct volume of the day on the patient count worksheet
