Job Summary

The Ancillary Access Representative (AAR) performs cross-functional Patient Access duties across outpatient and inpatient registration areas (lab and radiology) to ensure patients meet financial requirements, provide information to hospital users, families, and staff, and support scheduling and order activation. Responsibilities include check-in/desks across departments, emergency department, outpatient/inpatient registration, and observing/processing in various registration contexts. Requires effective communication, patient-focused service, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret clinical and financial documents. Part-time schedule (7:00 AM–7:30 PM; 24 hours/week). Preferred experience with patient contact, medical terminology, and insurance verification; Spanish language ability is a plus. Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative or Patient Access Scheduling Representative
  • Clear and concise communication required to interview patients/families and to exchange information with hospital staff/physicians/third party payors
  • Concise written communication and keyboarding skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information, business account information, financial and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries from regulatory agencies, hospital staff, community members, or guests
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to handle abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal, and written instructions
  • Preferred Qualifications: Two years’ experience with patient contact, Basic Medical terminology knowledge, Medical insurance verification and authorization experience, Spanish language ability
