Job Summary
Coordinate front-end patient registration activities from pre-registration through discharge, ensuring insurance verification and compliance with regulatory agencies like EMTALA, CMS, HIPAA, and JCAHO. Call patients to pre-register or confirm appointments, accurately search databases to establish patient status, and obtain required signatures for release of information. Prioritize work for optimal reimbursement, collect patient liability, and refer uninsured patients to financial counselors while escalating unaddressed benefit concerns. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, adhere to departmental protocols, and support the EHC Patient Access Mission Statement.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years healthcare related or customer service experience
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs
- Must be able to carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to stand and walk occasionally to frequently
- Must be able to sit occasionally
- Must be able to perform close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing)
- Must be able to handle blood-borne pathogen exposure
- Must be able to handle bio-hazardous waste
- Must be able to handle chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors
- Must be able to handle communicable diseases
- Must be able to handle electrical shock
- Must be able to handle floor surfaces
- Must be able to handle hot/cold temperatures
- Must be able to handle indoor/outdoor conditions
- Must be able to handle latex
- Must be able to handle lighting
- Must be able to handle patient care/handling injuries
- Must be able to handle radiation
- Must be able to handle shift work
- Must be able to handle travel
- Must be able to use personal protective equipment, including respirators
- Must be able to provide one week's advance notice for reasonable accommodations
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other commercial payers (HMO, PPO)
- Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA)
