Job Summary
Register all patients accessing System services, verifying insurance and demographics while collecting copays and deductibles. Distribute materials, obtain signatures on consents and financial forms, and refer patients to financial assistance when applicable. Enter orders for laboratory, radiology, therapy, and physician services, ensuring timely reconciliation to prevent revenue loss. Acquire precertification for surgery, outpatient tests, and pharmacy services. Coordinate bed availability with Nursing Services and manage centralized scheduling to maximize department capacity. Utilize insurance verification tools to maintain low error rates. Function as the primary switchboard operator during shifts, answering calls, directing patients, and coordinating codes. Perform mail distribution, chart retrieval, and inventory tasks as needed. Work beyond scheduled shifts to meet attendance policy and assist in staff training. Comply with all mandatory educational and safety programs while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- A minimum of six months prior healthcare, finance, collection or billing experience
- Experience with computer applications
- Medical terminology and coding experience
- Good interpersonal skills
- Able to relate well with a wide cross-section of professionals, patients and others in System
- Must be polite, courteous and trustworthy in safeguarding confidential information
- Light physical activity
- Emergency room environment (as applicable)
- Patient interaction with sitting, walking and computer usage required
- Category III tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues
- Category I tasks are not a condition of employment
- Setting daily goals (keeping a goal sheet)
- Submit ideas/revisions if daily goals are not met
- Education and training are mandatory

- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
