Job Summary
Patient Access Representative at Ochsner Health (PRN, open availability 2:30pm–7:00am including weekends/holidays). Greets patients, initiates scheduling and check-in/admission, collects and verifies demographic data for medical records, assists with insurance verification, and conducts point-of-service collections. Responsibilities include completing patient registration/admission, inputting demographic and financial information, explaining benefits, collecting co-pays/deductibles/self-pay portions, performing basic financial analysis, balancing cash drawer, and supporting multiple functions across patient and payer types. Requires strong customer service, data-entry, and communication skills; knowledge of healthcare billing regulations and privacy standards; ability to work in a high-stress environment with attention to detail and collaboration across departments. Education: high school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred. Prior hospital/clinic/customer service experience (minimum 1 year) is required. Proficiency with computer systems and various software packages is expected. The role is open to on-site work in New Orleans, LA with potential remote considerations only as specified by the employer.
Required Qualifications
- Education Required – High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred – Associate’s degree
- Work Experience Required – Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or other customer service-related environment
- Certifications Preferred - CHAM, CHAA, Medical Assistant or similar medical certification
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities – proficient with Windows-style applications, data entry, verbal and written communication, customer service
- Understanding of healthcare insurance benefits, payor guidelines, and regulatory requirements
