Job Summary
The Patient Access Advocate greets patients, assists with in-person and phone registration, verifies insurance, collects point-of-service payments, and documents registration in the electronic health record. Responsibilities include visit closure activities (collecting payments, follow-up as needed), providing wayfinding and general clerical support, ensuring HIPAA compliance, and delivering high-quality customer service with strong communication and multitasking abilities. Requires at least a high school diploma/GED, 50 wpm typing, healthcare or customer service experience, basic Microsoft Office skills, and familiarity with insurance verification and medical terminology.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum typing speed 50 wpm
- 6 months healthcare setting experience or 1 year customer service
- Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Basic understanding of insurance verification
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) preferred
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Ability to read/write simple correspondence and follow instructions
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
- Non-exempt status
- Ability to operate in healthcare environment
