Job Summary
Patient Access Advocate I-Emergency Department-CDS provides primary registration of patient accounts for self-pay and insured patients on date of service for scheduled and unscheduled visits. Responsibilities include performing registration, updating demographics, verifying insurance, collecting point-of-service liabilities, and documenting registration info in the ADT system; ensuring accurate account information for clean billing; delivering high-quality customer service and guiding patients to their destinations with CARES, AIDET, and EPE tools; educating patients on insurance benefits and liabilities; maintaining compliance with Medicare CMS guidelines and other regulatory requirements; and maintaining accurate records and documentation, with emphasis on data quality and financial clearance at time of service. This role requires strong data entry, familiarity with Epic, and knowledge of billing codes and terminology.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- 6 months experience in healthcare setting or 1 year customer service background
- Pass 2 week Patient Access Academy with a passing score of 85% or higher (within 6 mos of start)
- CHAA, CHAM or other industry equivalent certification preferred
- Basic understanding of insurance preferred
- EPIC proficiency test with 85% score
