Job Summary
Pathology Technician needed to perform evaluation, examination, description, and gross dissection of biopsies and small surgical specimens under Surgical Pathologists. Responsibilities include accessioning cases into the LIS, verifying specimen containers and requisitions for patient identification, resolving discrepancies before gross examination, photographing gross specimens as needed, assisting in cutting and staining frozen sections, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and CLIA-compliant training for moderate to high complexity testing; no certification required. Training period of at least 3 months with competency deemed by the Division Head. Strong attention to detail, independence, leadership aptitude, excellent interpersonal communication, ability to work under pressure, and basic typing (20 WPM) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) proficiency. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and the requisite courses to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing
- Experience: No experience required, but some healthcare experience is a plus
- Certification: None
- At least three (3) months of on-the-job training with deemed competency by the Division Head required
- Unique or Preferred Skills: Ability to work independently and efficiently in a highly organized manner with particular attention to detail
- Progressive analytical skills and ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems that may adversely affect test performance or result performance
- Ability to accurately type 20 words per minute
- Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
