Job Summary
Pathology Support Specialist I processes pathology test orders placed in the EMR, ensuring complete and accurate data for processing, enters data into the LIS, creates Material Request Forms (MRF), handles specimen receipt (paraffin blocks and slides), coordinates with the Lab and Ref labs, tracks order status and reporting, and provides real-time feedback to staff pathologists. Responsibilities include reviewing EMR orders for completeness and appropriate ICD-10 coding, ensuring correct patient demographics/insurance routing, following up on incomplete or unsigned orders, managing BI reports for daily orders, and performing assigned administrative duties, training, and adherence to quality control and regulatory requirements; strong emphasis on organization, communications, and cross-functional teamwork within a laboratory operations environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a medical/clinical or laboratory setting is preferred
- Medical terminology knowledge required
- Lab Information System and Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
