Job Summary
Embed and process all tissues from tissue processors, print and label slides, and maintain slide and block files. Perform start-up duties, change histology solutions, and maintain grossing stations, tissue processors, autostainers, cryostats, and embedding centers. Collect specimens from multiple locations for accessioning, log into LIMS for sample disposal, and assist pathologists with frozen sections. Support cytology services by receiving, accessioning, staining, and processing specimens for inpatients, outpatients, and physicians, including FNA, bone marrow, kidney biopsy, and EBUS. Assist with histology overflow to maintain pathology service turnaround time.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical terminology
- Able to type 40 wpm
- Light Work - Walking or standing up to 49% of shift
- duties require standard movement
- may occasionally lift up to 20 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Some college education in lab sciences or health-related field preferred
- Prior specimen preparation experience preferred
- Proficient with Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Able to learn computer programs as necessary
- Attentive to detail
- Ability to multitask
