Job Summary
Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, ensuring appropriate accessioning, labeling, and integrity of patient identification. Describe gross anatomic features of routine and complex surgical specimens, documenting measurements, weight, volume, and abnormal findings while dissecting tissues for histologic processing. Escalate more complex or unusual specimens to an Exempt Pathologist's Assistant or Pathologist and oversee or train Grossing Technicians as applicable. Complete all associated paperwork and follow laboratory procedures for job-related responsibilities while interacting directly with pathologists regarding dissection and description activities. Work night shifts from 9pm to 5:30am, Monday through Friday, with weekend rotations.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree
- PA (ASCP), or eligible
- Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Tissue Gross Examinations SOP and 1988 CLIA CFR 493.1489
- Night Shift
- Weekend Rotations
Desired Qualifications
- One year of surgical gross experience
- Graduate of a NAACLS approved Pathologist Assistant training program
