Job Summary
Conduct gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens, preparing tissue for frozen section diagnosis, histology, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemical staining. Dictate accurate gross descriptions including color, measurement, shape, and weight while photographing all appropriate specimens. Reconcile specimen accessioning and labeling against logs, containers, blocks, and requisitions. Support residents and housestaff with training in gross examination, cryostat use, and digital photography. Maintain laboratory equipment, sterilize instruments, manage supply inventory, and ensure compliance with CAP, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission standards. Assist in organizing anatomic pathology conferences and performing QA/QC initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Pathology Assistant training program
- Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology or related field
- required previous related experience including surgical pathology, gross dissection of surgical specimens, and frozen sections
- NYSDOH License as a Pathologist Assistant
- Excellent communication skills

Desired Qualifications
- National Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP-PA)
- Board certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP BOR)
- Certification through the American Association of Pathologist Assistants (AAPA)
- Experience working with Residents and Fellows
- 2 years experience working in a surgical pathology laboratory as a Pathologist Assistant
