Job Summary
Patent Paralegal for DePuy Synthes IP Legal team focused on managing day-to-day US and international patent prosecution and portfolio administration. Responsibilities include preparing, filing, and managing patent documents; coordinating with patent attorneys, inventors, and outside counsel to ensure timely prosecution and maintenance of patent assets; monitoring deadlines and ensuring compliance with global IP requirements; assisting with invention disclosures and portfolio reporting; handling correspondence with patent offices and external providers; collaborating to maintain and update patent practice procedures and policies; applying company policies in daily interactions.
Required Qualifications
- Education Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal studies, or legal-related field preferred
- 8–10 years of experience supporting patent prosecution or intellectual property legal work
- Experience supporting U.S. and international patent filings, including knowledge of procedures and documentation requirements
- Experience using IP docketing and document management systems
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, other paralegals, business partners, and external counsel
- Language: English proficiency required
- Travel: Minimal; occasional domestic travel may be required (<10%)
Desired Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate
- Prior experience in a medical device, life sciences, or regulated industry
- Familiarity with patent maintenance and annuity processes
- Understanding of intellectual property compliance and record-keeping best practices
