Job Summary
Draft and globally prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications, coordinate correspondence with foreign law firms and clients for document processing, review country requirements, and maintain client patent portfolios. Prepare notices regarding upcoming deadlines, anticipate project needs, and delegate tasks to paralegals or administrative assistants while managing the patent prosecution docket. Meet a billable hour target of 1650 per year and collaborate with supervising partners and docketing specialists. This Mechanical patent agent role supports Stinson LLP's Intellectual Property and Technology Division, serving clients across industrial automation, aviation, medical devices, and infrastructure sectors.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, higher degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, or similar engineering degree and/or work experience
- S. Patent & Trademark Office registration
- Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution
- Experience managing patent prosecution docket and taking ownership of patent applications and patents during all phases of patent prosecution
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with supervising partners, patent legal administration assistants, patent paralegals, and docketing specialists
- Law firm or in-house IP experience
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to talk and hear

- Ability to handle or feel
- Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

- Extensive experience across a broad range of technologies, including mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, and software
