Job Summary
Writes new patent applications for filing at the USPTO, analyzes and revises patent agreements, and drafts responses to office actions. Negotiates and drafts patent agreements while preparing documents for filing and processing. Performs patentability and freedom-to-operate searches, publication clearance reviews, and assists in maintaining an active prosecution docket. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, USPTO registration, and three years of experience drafting applications. McGuireWoods LLP offers a hybrid remote option and excellent benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Registered with the USPTO
- Degree in Software Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- Experience and interest preparing patent applications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
- Minimum of three years of experience drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the USPTO for an intellectual property law firm
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to respond effectively to clients, employees and management and handle sensitive and/or confidential communications
- Self-motivated
- Ability to work under time restraints and deadlines
