Part Time Van Driver (School Setting, Tempe)

Job Summary

Transport students over scheduled routes and to/from special excursions while ensuring vehicle safety, loading, and unloading. Perform pre-trip inspections, fuel vehicles, and maintain interior/exterior cleanliness. Prepare documentation including daily mileage reports, incident records, and inspections. Assess incidents, accidents, and emergency situations for resolution or recommendation. Monitor passengers during transit to maintain order and provide first aid as necessary. Execute nonviolent crisis prevention and restraint techniques to de-escalate situations. Communicate with parents, teachers, administrators, and dispatchers regarding student needs and vehicle status.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license to operate school buses and related equipment
  • Certification in first aid/CPR
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull
  • Ability to climb and balance
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
  • Fine finger dexterity
  • Ability to sit (75% of the job)
  • Ability to walk (20% of the job)
  • Ability to stand (5% of the job)
  • Ability to work under temperature extremes
  • Ability to work under conditions with exposure to the risk of injury and/or illness
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent's, and/or ratios
  • Ability to read a variety of manuals
  • Ability to write documents following prescribed formats
  • Ability to present information to others
  • Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions
  • Ability to read maps
  • Ability to speak, read, understand, and write English
