Job Summary
Drive an assigned route to transport passengers to medical facilities, grocery stores, pharmacies, and employment sites while maintaining a clean driving record with no points in the past three years. Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, disinfect interior surfaces, and assist ambulatory and wheelchair users using proper securement devices without physically lifting them. Maintain accurate records of stop times, passenger counts, and mileage for payroll and departmental reporting. Operate agency transit vehicles, including vans and small buses, while exercising de-escalation techniques when necessary. Work up to 30 hours weekly between 4 AM and 6 PM at $14.92 per hour for non-CDL drivers or $15.36 for those with a passenger endorsement.
Required Qualifications
- MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK BETWEEN 4AM AND 6PM
- MUST HAVE HAD YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE A MINIMUM OF 5 YEARS
- LICENSE MUST BE VALID
- CLEAN DRIVING RECORD
- ABILITY TO PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK
- ABILITY TO PASS A DRUG TEST
- Minimum of five (5) years general driving experience
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles
- MUST BE A LICENSED DRIVER FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS
- Applicant cannot have any points on driving record in the three (3) years prior to application
- Applicant must authorize verification of driving record
- Applicant must authorize criminal background check
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including automobiles, vans, light trucks, small buses, and accessibility equipment
- Must be able to exert enough force occasionally to push a passenger in a wheelchair to include up/down an accessibility ramp, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently
- Must be able to assist passengers from the vehicle during an emergency evacuation
- Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information
- Requires the ability to read a variety of records and documents such as manifests and training manuals
- Requires the ability to communicate with a variety of persons including individuals who are elderly and/or disabled
- Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English
- Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a variety of passenger vehicles and other motorized equipment
- Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as vehicles, passenger vans, small buses, and motorized equipment
- Must have minimum levels of eye/hand/foot coordination
- Must be able to get onto knees when necessary to properly secure a wheelchair
- Must be able to bend and twist
- Requires the ability to talk and hear
