Job Summary
Provide timely, accurate traffic and weather reports to help commuters plan drives, delivering up-to-the-minute updates on accidents, delays, and disruptions. Read traffic updates, commercials, and public service announcements on air while gathering information from multiple sources and monitoring local, state, and national feeds. Research, write, and produce traffic and weather copy for on-air use, edit audio using digital software, and manage incoming information to ensure accuracy. Maintain updated content on station websites and create written, visual, audio, and video content for blogs and social media platforms. Work a flexible schedule as needed, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Strong knowledge of local geography, major roadways, mass transit systems, and traffic patterns
- Clear, pleasant, and well controlled on air voice with excellent pronunciation
- Skilled at working in a fast paced, deadline driven, newsroom style environment
- Excellent writing and editing abilities with a strong command of grammar
- Exceptional attention to detail with consistent follow through until issues are resolved
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively in a high-volume setting
- Familiarity with police scanners
- Previous broadcast experience
- English & Spanish bilingual
