Job Summary
Tutor students in grades K-5 within the district using sound instructional practices, preparing clear lesson plans and distributing homework assignments. Evaluate student subject levels regularly through testing, quizzing, and progress reports, while managing individual behavior to maintain a safe learning environment. Counsel with parents and colleagues, attend conferences, and refer students suspected of learning disabilities for specialist assistance. Act as a teacher and facilitator in subject areas, organize programs like Right to Read Week, and participate in building teams as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Proper certification in the grade level and content area
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution of higher learning
- Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
- Basic knowledge of all other subject matter
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Experience working with children
- Training in varied instructional methods
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent reading comprehension
- Occasional requirement to travel daily and overnight
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
- Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop
- Frequent operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
- Being prepared to come to work on all scheduled work days, except calamity days
- Weekend/evening/summer work
- Requirement to lift and/or carry up to a maximum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to a maximum of 100 pounds, various supplies and/or equipment
