Job Summary
Follow established arrival and dismissal protocols to instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations. Present subject matter in accordance with Texas Education Agency guidelines while implementing the classroom discipline management plan. Create a learning environment conducive to student maturity levels, manage instructional time effectively, and document lessons presented for the regular teacher. Serve as a positive role model and protect student confidentiality. Report injuries, illnesses, or significant disciplinary concerns immediately to campus administration. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members while complying with all state, district, and campus policies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Must pass a fingerprint-based background check
- Must be 18 years old for elementary assignments
- Must be 21 years old for secondary assignments
- Must attend substitute orientation
- The ability to move throughout the building and/or district
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and lifting up to approximately 30 pounds
- Occasional lifting of equipment and materials up to 40 pounds
- Occasional travel with students on field trips
- Maintain emotional control under stress
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Texas teaching certificate
- Knowledge of subject area(s) assigned
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management
- Ability to instruct students
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff
