Job Summary
Part-time Stroke Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Nocturnist at Ochsner Health. Works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff to provide medical and nursing care, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, and discharge planning. Involves teaching residents and medical students, staff development, and community education. Requires leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in outpatient clinic settings; must have strong communication, computer, and Windows proficiency. Requires current APRN or PA licensure in the practice state, ACLS/BCLS certification, and prescriptive authority eligibility. Must be able to travel between facilities and work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. The role is described as part-time with potential for 24/7 coverage and is based in Lafayette, Louisiana, within the Ochsner Health system.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice
- Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist by either AACN or ANCC
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing or Medical Examiners
- Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice
- NCCPA certification (PA track)
- Strong computer skills and experience with Windows-style applications
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to teach residents and students
- Ability to travel between facilities
- Flexible work schedule including 24/7 availability
