Job Summary
Lead figure skating classes at all levels including Learn to Skate, Learn to Compete, and Synchronized Skating Teams while maintaining discipline and safety. Deliver high-quality instruction using varied techniques, complete class evaluations and rosters, and return equipment to the rental area after each session. Attend scheduled in-house meetings, workshops, and teaching seminars as required. Prioritize skater safety, evaluate performance, and promote participation in shows, competitions, and special events. Schedule includes pre- and post-class responsibilities for student interaction. Communicate continuously with parents regarding progress and upcoming opportunities. Work in USFS-sponsored shows and exhibitions when assigned. Perform special projects as directed by the Skating Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 16 years old
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in coordination of people and resources
- Learn to Skate USA Membership
- Learn to Skate USA Certification
- SafeSport Certification
- Concussion Training
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Ability to teach all levels of the Learn to Skate USA curriculum
- Ability to interact successfully with a variety of people
- Good leadership and excellent communication skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with many different people
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Ability to train others to accomplish goals
- Figure skating/hockey knowledge
- Prior on-ice skating experience
- Personal figure skates (or hockey skates, if hired directly for hockey purposes)
- Confidence of skills and ability to make sound, independent decisions
- Ability to coordinate resources and responsibilities
- Ability to get along well with others
- Strong leadership qualities
- Ability to skate and instruct clients
- Ability to lift children and be mobile on the ice
- Ability to work in a cold environment
- Excellent speaking and listening skills
- Ability to work with and around water and ice
- Ability to work at or below freezing temperatures for extended periods of time
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs
- Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs
- Ability to bend, kneel, and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time
- Subject to a background check, including a criminal history check, driving history and character references
- Ability to work in a cold environment
- Ability to work with and around water and ice
- Ability to work at or below freezing temperatures for extended periods of time
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs
- Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs
- Ability to bend, kneel, and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time
