Job Summary
Respond to calls for service, monitor telephone and radio systems, and provide constant foot patrol covering the entire campus. Answer requests for service, handle opening and closing of facilities, and respond to emergency-based assignments and directives. Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and departmental members regarding campus policies, procedures, and emergency processes. Operate fire and burglar alarm systems, perform safety and security checks, and complete incident reports using computer skills. Assist with after-hour emergency facility work and perform any other special tasks as assigned. This unarmed security position operates Friday through Monday on the day shift.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Ability to pass a background check
- Working knowledge of basic security techniques
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, Salem students, staff, administration, and community
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Bend, squat, stand, kneel, walk, run, crawl, and climb
- Regularly ascend/descend stairs
- Walk for long distances and sit for varying lengths of time
- Reach above shoulders, handle keys/tools/objects, push, pull, carry, or lift objects over 40 lbs
- Work may necessitate accessing and working in confined spaces or high spaces
- Must be physically able to perform tasks appropriately
- Must be physically able to operate the equipment required to perform duties
- Work in an indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing temperatures
