Job Summary
Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, skin puncture, and heel sticks, while obtaining non-blood samples like urine and sputum. Verify patient identity and test requisitions before collection, then access and process specimens for laboratory testing. Perform waived or moderately complex testing using kits or instruments, adhering to quality control and proficiency testing protocols. Manage daily collections, maintain supply inventories, and perform clerical duties including recording volumes and filing. Assist in training interns and support reception tasks such as greeting patients and routing calls. Adhere to all safety procedures for biohazards and sharp devices while collaborating with medical staff and supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/ GED
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be available for holiday shifts
- Must pass a drug test
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from a Phlebotomy technical training program
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification
- 1+ years of phlebotomy experience
- Newborn / Pediatric phlebotomy experience
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through previous medical practice experience (up to 1 year)
- Proficiency in the use of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proven solid interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
