Job Summary
Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, skin puncture, and heel sticks, while gathering non-blood samples like urine and sputum. Verify patient identity, review requisitions for accuracy, and assemble necessary collection equipment. Process specimens for laboratory testing, perform waived or moderately complex tests, and run quality control reports. Accession samples, record collection requests, and handle receptionist duties such as greeting patients and routing calls. Maintain a clean workspace, restock supplies, and assist in training interns or supporting clinical areas. Adhere to all safety protocols and laboratory policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Ability to draw all ages
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from a Phlebotomy technical training program
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification
- Previous phlebotomy experience or equivalent externship experience
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through previous medical practice experience (up to 1 year)
- Proficiency in the use of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proven solid interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
