Job Summary
Nurse Navigator coordinates all aspects of patient care within RN scope of practice in an outpatient oncology setting, educating patients and families, acting as a liaison between infusion nursing and providers, coordinating end-of-life care, performing telephone assessments, documenting per protocol, supporting survivorship, and potentially assisting with weekend/holiday calls and treatments after one year.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Nursing
- Alabama RN license
- At least 3 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year in acute care or oncology
- Knowledge of oncology treatment procedures, facilities and equipment
- Knowledge of supportive care principles and techniques for oncology patients
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
- Ability to educate patients and/or families about diseases and treatment
- Ability to perform nursing assessments and patient triage
- Knowledge of the nature and treatments of oncologic diseases and related therapy side effects
- Patient assessment and referral skills
- Bereavement counseling techniques
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards
- Bachelors degree preferred (education/experience requirement)
- BLS and chemotherapy certification/training preferred
