Part-Time Non-Commissioned Security Officer

Job Summary

Conduct patrols and monitor assigned areas at Stark Cultural Venues and Stark Foundation, including interior and exterior premises, to protect people and property while deterring illegal activities. Enforce rules and regulations, respond to emergencies, and maintain order by ensuring compliance with policies for employees, visitors, and vendors. Perform daily visual inspections, authorize entrance and departure through container searches, and monitor video surveillance and alarm systems to investigate disturbances. Report suspicious persons, safety hazards, and discrepancies to lead officers or security management, and render aid during incidents requiring Basic Life Support. Maintain physical fitness, mental preparedness, and proficiency with tools and weapons as directed by Security Management.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum age (21 years of age)
  • High school graduate or has passed a general education development (GED) test indicating high school graduation level
  • Level 2 Texas Non-Commissioned Security Officer as licensed by Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau
  • A current driver's license and good driving record
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Defibrillator certification
  • Must be able to work a schedule determined by security department coverage needs that may include weekends, holidays, after hours, or other special events
  • Must possess the ability to clearly communicate required behavior in a firm manner
  • Ability to identify and dissuade inappropriate and/or noncompliant behavior in clear, but civil words, tone and mannerisms
  • Must be able to speak/listen/communicate in English
  • Requires contact with individuals and teams (face-to-face interaction, radio, and telephone)
  • Requires working with others in a group or team
  • Requires working with members of the public
  • May require dealing with dissatisfied, unpleasant or discourteous people
  • Ability to display tact and discretion

  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to see, with or without corrective measures, to spot and identify security problems
  • Ability to observe scenes, vehicles and individuals at close and distant range
  • Ability to hear, with or without corrective measures, to identify security problems and determine response

  • Ability to maintain constant state of vigilance and preparedness in a repetitive/tedious/isolated environment
  • Ability to be constantly alert for threats to the collection, premises, or employees, volunteers, or visitors

  • Must be fit for duty based on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2)
  • Must have and maintain physical fitness (including cardiopulmonary wellness and mental preparedness) that meets or exceeds minimum fit-for-duty requirements
  • Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty and responsibility
  • Must be able to work a schedule determined by security department coverage needs that may include weekends, holidays, after hours, or other special events

Desired Qualifications

  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement approved training
  • Equivalent training through another state (non-Texas) program
  • Military Police Training
  • Military, police, related law enforcement experience
  • Prior security experience
