Job Summary

Conduct newborn hearing screens on all applicable patients while following IHSS and hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and safety guidelines. Ensure every infant is screened according to state requirements under California, NHSP, and corporate guidelines, maintaining clean work areas and strict patient identification standards. Record results in patient charts, maintain required logs, inventory supplies, and report equipment malfunctions to Biomedical Engineering. Perform screens in optimal conditions when possible, such as when infants are sleeping, and report hospital concerns within twelve hours. Maintain excellent customer service and attend program meetings as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum skill and proficiency in both oral and written communication
  • Minimum skill and proficiency in basic mathematical calculations
  • Completion of the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) Newborn Hearing Screening Training Curriculum
  • Basic Life Support CPR American Heart Association Course Completion Cards
  • Ability to stand, walk, and push the screening equipment
  • Ability to perform light physical lifting (up to 25 pounds) on an intermittent basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff, including but not limited to, nurses and other staff within the hospital
  • Required to be available to work weekends and holidays
  • Seasonal influenza shot
  • TB Test within one year or a current TB chest X-ray within three years
  • Two MMR (Measles, Mumps, & Rubella) immunization records or blood titer (with quantitative values)
  • Two Varicella immunization records or blood titer (with quantitative values)
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) immunization record dated within ten years
  • Hepatitis B immunizations: either series of 3, blood titer (with quantitative values)
