Job Summary
Actively guard and scan the pool area to prevent injuries by minimizing hazards, enforce pool rules, and assist swimmers in emergencies. Recognize and respond quickly to all incidents while reporting unsafe conditions or equipment. Educate students and visitors on safe pool use, provide swim instruction or manage games, and perform general maintenance as assigned. Maintain ARC-Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications, plus physical fitness, while participating in regular training. Work Saturdays from 8:30am to 2:30pm with a guaranteed 6 hours weekly, with additional hours available during summer camp. Previous lifeguarding experience with young children is required.
Required Qualifications
- Previous swimming experience
- lifeguarding experience
- actively certified in ARC-Lifeguarding and First Aid
- actively certified in ARC-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- prerequisites for American Red Cross lifeguard and rescuer training
- minimum age of 15
- passing certain swimming requirements
- demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, with children and adults
- understanding of a child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
- demonstrated ability to follow directions and complete tasks in an effective manner
- ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy setting
- ability to organize and participate in age-appropriate enrichment activities
- ability to work well with people
- ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Saturdays, 8:30am to 2:30pm
- Guaranteed 6 hours per week
- additional hours available during summer camp season (8 weeks in June/July/August)
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- lifeguarding experience with 3 to 6 year old children
