Job Summary
The Learning Services Program (LSP) is seeking a part-time Learning Support Specialist/Writing Tutor to provide one-on-one academic support and disability accommodations to first-year students with learning disabilities, and to tutor writing in the LSP reserved section of Writing Studies; training and supervision will be provided. Duties include coordinating accommodations, delivering writing tutoring, and supporting students in an academic setting at American University’s Main Campus (Washington, DC). Certainty of part-time hours (25-27 per week) and salary range ($23.00-$25.00/hour). Requires B.A. in related field with experience in supporting students with learning disabilities and ADHD; preferred Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field. Employment governed by SEIU Local 500 collective bargaining agreement; on-site work in DC/MD/VA as applicable; background check required; E-Verify employer; equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- B.A. in related field
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities and ADHD and the accommodations process
- Experience providing one-on-one academic support services
- Experience or training in teaching or tutoring writing, preferably for individuals with learning disabilities
