Job Summary
Intervenor to support people who are deafblind in East Danforth, ON. Responsibilities include enabling communication and day-to-day living for individuals with dual sensory impairment to live independently, providing in-home and community support, using communication techniques to relay information, empowering individuals to participate in daily living, providing personal care as needed (lifts, transfers, toileting, hygiene, medication administration), assisting with developing goals and program development, and ensuring complete documentation and records. The role requires a college diploma or related certification in intervenor/deafblind services (or related human services field), ASL/SEE proficiency, a valid Class G driver’s license, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally. Training is provided in-house, and employment is contingent on a successful Vulnerable Sector Police Check; French language may be an asset.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a college diploma or certificate in the Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program, or related fields such as Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA), Personal Support Worker (PSW) or Behavioural Science;
- Experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviours;
- Experience supporting persons with mental health conditions;
- Communication in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE);
- Valid driver’s license Class G, access to a reliable vehicle, clean driver’s abstract, and ability to obtain automobile insurance with minimum liability of $2 million;
- Ability to lift 35 lbs to 50 lbs occasionally;
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors;
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check required
