Job Summary
Support communication and day-to-day living for individuals with dual sensory impairment by relaying information, empowering participation in personal hygiene, meal preparation, and volunteerism, and providing personal care including lifts, transfers, toileting, and medication administration. Assist with developing individual goals and objectives while supporting program development and ensuring complete documentation and records. Work in home and community environments, performing tasks that may involve repetitive hand motion, stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working both indoors and outdoors. This part-time role (20-24 hours weekly) includes rotational shifts across days, evenings, and weekends, with training provided through an in-house program.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a college diploma or certificate in the Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program, or: Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Behavioural Science, or a related human services field.
- Experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviours.
- Experience supporting persons with mental health conditions.
- Communication in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE).
- Valid driver's license Class G, access to a reliable vehicle, a clean current driver's abstract and the ability to obtain automobile insurance with a minimum liability of $2 million.
- Employment is conditional upon receipt of a successful Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
- Excellent communication skills for both verbally and written of the English language.
