Job Summary
Part-Time Freelance Editor for FoxNews.com and foxbusiness.com who will collaborate with Editors and Senior Editors to lead a team of writers. Responsibilities include assigning and editing breaking, trending, and original stories, approving pitches, and turning sharp news into compelling copy with SEO-friendly headlines. Must edit for grammar, style, and substance under fast-breaking conditions, optimize visual elements (video/images), and use real-time analytics to guide editorial decisions. Requires five years of breaking news experience, prior editorial leadership, AP style proficiency, CMS knowledge, and the ability to work on a Friday–Sunday 6:00 AM–2:00 PM ET shift. Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience; on-call and holiday coverage expected. Salary ranges from $36.00-$43.00 per hour. Location: New York, NY, USA.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years proven experience in a daily breaking news environment
- Prior management experience
- Experience using content management systems
- Knowledge of AP style
- Ability to edit and write SEO-friendly headlines
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience
- Experience integrating AI tools into editorial workflows
- Ability to lead a team of writers and assign breaking, trending, and original stories
- Strong editorial judgment and oversight
- Proficiency across FOX platforms (FOX News Channel, FOX Business, FOX News Digital)
- Flexibility to work Friday-Sunday shifts and holidays

- Experience assigning and editing breaking, trending and original stories
- Experience sending alerts and using analytics to maximize audience engagement
- On-call mentality and ability to work under emergency/breaking news conditions
- Experience with fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom environments
- Strong understanding of current events and politics
- Flexibility to work holidays and varying shifts
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of SEO best practices for editorial content
- Experience with multiple FOX platforms (FOX News Channel, FOX Business, FOX Nation)
