Job Summary
Ride pens on horseback daily to monitor cattle health, observe for diseases and injuries, and cut sick animals from groups. Assist with doctoring and processing cattle, perform water and pen repairs, and maintain general feed yard operations. Operate a tractor and feed truck as needed, while handling equipment and moving cattle in and out of pens. Work alone in all weather conditions as a self-starter. Valid driver's license required.
Required Qualifications
- Good working knowledge of cattle health
- Good working knowledge of cattle handling
- Good working knowledge of horsemanship
- Good working knowledge of feed yard operations
- Ability to ride pens on horseback daily
- Ability to monitor cattle health in all weather conditions
- Ability to cut out sick cattle from pens
- Ability to move groups of cattle in and out of the feed yard
- Ability to process incoming cattle
- Ability to doctor sick cattle
- Ability to operate a tractor
- Ability to operate a feed truck
- Self-starter
- Ability to work alone in a safe manner with unpredictable cattle
- Valid driver's license in good standing
- Ability to be an approved driver for the company
- Ability to safely operate vehicles
- Prior experience with an agricultural background or a comparable field of study through formal education
