Job Summary
Facilitate meaningful learning of course competencies through learning-centered instruction for physical therapist assistant students. Develop, implement, and evaluate the PTA curriculum in collaboration with faculty, while establishing performance criteria to enable student achievement of exit competencies. Manage the learning environment by delivering effective classroom instruction, maintaining accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing academic policies. Participate in program governance, planning, and system task forces, and contribute to campus events such as orientation and graduation. Relate professional experience to student learning by introducing industry perspectives and trends. Fulfill additional responsibilities as determined by the Program Director and participate in annual faculty development to maintain licensure.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy
- Experience in the PT/PTA relationship
- Understanding of contemporary physical practice and its relation to PTA education
- Service on behalf of physical therapy education, the community, and/or the profession
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build successful relationships with student populations
- Outstanding conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills
- Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills)
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines
- Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse school/campus constituents
- Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision
- Ability to learn from students' participation
- Demonstrates fair and consistent behavior in all matters
- Shows compassion without being ineffectual
Desired Qualifications
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from a regionally accredited university
- Experience in a variety of areas of teaching (e.g., academic, clinical, continuing education, in-service), in post-secondary or college institutions
- Membership in a professional association tied to area of instruction
