Job Summary
Equine Assistant (Part-Time) at Childhelp, Alice C. Tyler Village in Lignum, VA. Join a Ranch team caring for horses and supporting an equine-assisted mental health program serving resident youth aged 5–14. Responsibilities include routine ranch duties: stall and pasture cleaning, feeding, turning around horses, grooming, basic first aid, medication administration, and assisting with horse care and activities for at-risk children. Requires at least 19 years old, HS diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license with a clean 3-year record, and a minimum of 1 year full-time horse experience. Preferred qualifications include CHA/PATH/EAGALA certifications, CHA level 3 riding ability, and experience with therapeutic riding or EAP. Schedule is part-time (about 28 hours/week) with shifts primarily weekends (8am–6pm) and rotating holidays; must be flexible for additional shifts. Competitive pay: $18–$23/hour with benefits such as 401k match, free meals, and professional development. Location: Lignum, VA, USA.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least 19 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record for the past 3 years
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience working with horses
- Must have previous equine experience and the ability to safely handle horses independently
- Knowledge of basic equine first aid/wellness and care
- Experience in EAP/Equine assisted mental health services, animal assisted mental health services, or adaptive/therapeutic riding
- Ability to assist in safely leading equine activities with at risk children
- Be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test
- This is a tobacco free facility
