Job Summary
BEAM is hiring Part-Time Enrichment Instructors to teach math and programming to BEAM students in 8th-11th grade across multiple majors (Deep Thinking in Mathematics, Mathematical Biology, and Risks/Decisions/Money). Instructors will prep and teach courses, facilitate problem-solving and inquiry, and participate in curriculum development and program design. Responsibilities include BEAM training, weekly lesson planning, delivering engaging 3-hour teaching blocks, providing ongoing formative feedback, supporting curriculum rollout, collaborating with BEAM staff, participating in events, and maintaining a student-centered, inclusive learning environment. Courses emphasize proofs, discrete mathematics, programming in Python, data processing, and capstone-style projects, with fall/spring coursework and a schedule that includes Saturday enrichment sessions. Salary is $50 per hour. Hiring process includes application, interview rounds, project, reference checks, and offer.
Required Qualifications
- Classroom Experience: At least 3 years as a primary instructor in schools, enrichment programs, colleges, math circles, or similar settings.
- Demonstrated Content Knowledge: Experience with the topics covered in one or more of the courses listed above.
- Deep Mathematical Problem Solving Skills: Demonstrated experience with proofs, problem solving, and logical reasoning (for math courses) or logical reasoning in the context of computer science (for programming courses), especially at the college level.
- Excitement about mathematics: Genuine interest in and excitement for mathematics. Able to share your joy with students.
- Commitment to Student-Centered Teaching: Learners take the lead, exploring, questioning, and justifying their reasoning.
